Written in the fall of 2009 for the Lirica Chamber Ensemble, directed by Nicole Parks, The Passing Storm (for string orchestra) is a work which depicts a storm using aleatoric techniques. The piece begins with a sense of foreboding, building until the thunderous storm finally breaks, leaving a quiet, lonely scene behind. The pain is soon forgotten as a soaring melody develops, but the relief is not long-lived; a quiet recollection of the storm closes the piece.
